Backpacks, Books, and New Beginnings

As you can see in this picture, that boat is sinking. The name on the boat is Nicole. My name is also Nicole. Hello, nice to meet ya! The structure in the background is Ross Castle and according to family history research my mom and I have done, our ancestors lived there.

This picture is from Killarney, Ireland, on March 17, 2019. It rained pretty much the entire 8 days we were traveling around the country and it all seemed to accumulate around this lake. On my FB post, I captioned it, “Happy St Patrick’s Day from a sinking canoe named Nicole on the flooding grounds of my ancestral Irish home!”

How awesome is that?

Similarly, a bit on the nose, life-wise.

I feel like there’s a metaphor in this picture, but haven’t quite figured out exactly what it is.

Welcome to the Rambling Librarian.

I was going to name this blog with a different first word, but the domain was taken. So, like any other word nerd, I opened up the thesaurus and looked for suitable alternatives.

“Rambling” was probably the 4th word I got to and when I looked into the definition, I knew immediately this is the word for me and was glad I couldn’t use my first choice.

Case in point, I love to travel so the segment after subparagraph “a” spoke to me. If you can’t tell yet that I’m not great with segues (and change topics rather quickly), the “b” also fits quite well. As for “c”, this is why I’m starting my blog. My life has been one giant meandering path to get where I am now. I believe I can help others with the experience I have gained. So, you can follow along on my rambling journey.

But, WHY should I follow you on this weird, rambling journey?

Well, skeptic, here you’ll find:

  • travel tales and tips
  • photography fun times
  • how I live on a public librarian’s salary (it’s mostly what NOT to do that I’ve learned the hard way)
  • I’ll go ahead and be optimistic and say book reviews
  • why those YouTubers who say you can make $500 a day doing “x” side hustle are grifters
  • my favorite items I use daily or almost daily
  • how to make easy crochet items in a few simple steps instead of like those patterns you find are as long as a book
  • tactics for keeping your life together (or at least loosely duct taped) when you find out you’re a boat sinking in flooding waters

So you see? There’s something for everyone! Come for the travel tips, stay for the rants.
